Breast Cancer Symptoms

What Breast Cancer Survivors said about their Cancer Symptoms.

my cancer was microscopic
I had a growing tumor that was painful
2013: My back had been hurting for a while. Had an MRI that found cancer on 2 vertebrae. 2008: I found a lump during a self exam.
I really had no symptoms that I noticed. I accidentally found the first lump in 1994 myself. The second one in 2005 was detected during my annual mammogram. I would never have found this one because it was in the center of the breast at the back wall.
Lump in breast.
Oblong grape-size lump under breast along bra band-line.
I found a lump during a routine self exam.
Weary- that's all.
Feeling sometimes bitchy I put that down to arimidex. I hate the revisiting of menopause, night sweats, etc. Sometimes I just feel tired and can't keep up. UPDATE AUG/08. Not as tired anymore, but the rest is the same.
Found a lump
had a lump hard right breast
Site pain, feeling like a slug.
Found small lump that hurt a bit sometimes. Mammogram was clear. 4 months later mammogram was clear again but ultrasound showed something. Biopsy showed invasive ductal carcinoma and carcinoma in situ.
I had none, no one even felt a lump! Just went to my yearly exam and was asked to do a baseline mammogram and BAM!......Here we are!
No symtoms, went for a routine mamogram and ultrasound. Large mass found, biopsy showed tumor to be cancerous.
1st time- I felt a small lump when I laid down to go to sleep- 2nd time- fluid built up in my chest, lund had collapsed- couldn't breath. It go progressively worse over about 2-3 weeks. Felt a heaviness on my chest when I bent over, and struggled to climb stairs.
Gastric.
None found out I had this from a yearly Mamogram
Nipple discharge on right breast.
Standard
Found the lump while doing regular self exam 4 months after a mammogram was reportedly clear
None.
Cancer cells grew (for 2 years) under a mass (lump) we've been "watching" for a decade. No matter how cancer is found it will piss you off, make you feel neglectful and resentful of the medical community. Cancer happens - let it go and live large for the rest of your life.

My joint pain had not subsided, and about two months later, I developed a deep cough and had difficulty swallowing. My daughter rushed me to the ER, and after I had a chest x-ray, I also had to get a PET scan and MRI. I knew my outlook was not good before we even got the results back. The oncologist found two spots on my lung, and the cancer had spread to two lymph nodes on the other side of my chest wall. Like is said- not good news, but I have an amazing team of physicians, and a supportive family to help me through this. I couldn't go through this without them. My family gives me something to live for!

I hadnt been able to access it since I set it up! So if your wondering where I was...hmmmm...... I finally decided to create a new blog page since no body would respond via email to me @ the address I had registered at. I hopefully can get someone to delete it! I will keep this one!
No symptoms, and no primary found on skin or otherwise. A solitary pulmonary nodule was found via unrelated CT scan of my chest. Monitoring revealed that the nodule grew from 6.6mm to 1.1cm within 4 months, so surgery was opted. It was the surgical pathology which revealed the cancer, and later the full pathology as melanoma.
Painless mass under jaw, likely lymph node. Fatigue. Flu like symptoms at growth. 4cm tumor under jaw and 4cm in left frontal lobe.
Just a discoloration on my upper arm; had been there for years, but had developed a black quadrant, and had a "buzzy" feeling on occasion. One caregiver had told me it was "nothing", years ago. When I started this new doctor, he said "let's take a look at it", and sure enough, it was the dreaded melanoma.

Sudden itching and spreading pain in my left leg moving to my right arm within 12 hrs, then to my right leg, converting to extreme pain. Unable to sleep for over 36 hrs. Dr. expected brain involvement, ordered MRI. No indications of disease. Prescribed gabapentin, was like a miracle. I think because I could sleep. Symptoms abated for some time then returned. I went back to my PCP who had been on this the whole time. He sent me to a neurologist (who was awful) that ran a bunch of torture tests. He then sent me for an MRI of my neck. This is perhaps the best part of the story. When I met with him about the results he coldly said this is not neurological. Nothing else! I had an appointment with my PCP about two weeks later. Upon reading the report he said you have a large nodule on your thyroid (WTF). What a crappy doctor that neurologist was! Didn't say a thing or send a report to my PCP... My PCP went into high gear and ordered an Ultrasound, followed by a biopsy. Bad Findings, consult, and surgery. Great Surgeon, Dr. Glackin. Kind, Listens, Patient, Tender. Both Dr's PCP Levin and Surgeon Dr. Glackin visited and made sure orders were followed and I was comfortable after surgery and the next day. I thought that only happened on TV.

Extreme exhaustion.

I guess it all began on my 5th birthday. After months of bruising, nosebleeds, ear infections, chest colds, obnoxiously high fevers, and muscle pains so severe that I was unable to walk, I was diagnosed with ALL (acute lymphocytic leukemia). I went into remission a few months after treatment, and after a 3-year protocol I was pronounced a "full cure" at age 8. For 10 years I experienced absolutely no further symptoms, and just lived an extraordinarily normal & boring life without giving that stupid disease another thought. Then, I broke my arm. No big deal, right? Well, at my 10th annual follow-up checkup, I was told that - suprise! - I had localized osteosarcoma in my left radius (lower arm bone), and was in the early stages of AML (acute myelogenous leukemia). I underwent 1 year of chemo & radiation, as well as surgical removal of the osteogenic sarcoma & a bone graft (limb-salvage a complete success: my arm is still intact!). After going in and out of remission, I had a bone marrow transplant. 1 year later, I was pronounced in "full" remission, and discontinued all treatments the subsequent year. I had no further symptoms. 8 months ago I learned that my AML was no longer in remission. Here we go again :)

Mesothelioma Cancer Symptoms

What Mesothelioma Cancer Survivors said about their Cancer Symptoms.

chronic cough, shortness of breath, weakness, fatigue, anemia
28 lb Mass of 100's of tumors stemming from my peritoneum. Basically your peritoneum allows your organs to glide around in your abdomen. It produces and absorbs fluid. My peritoneum stopped working correctly and continued to flood my abdomen with cyst pockets. I went for many therapy drains which included abdomen taps into these fluid pockets, draining 4 liters of fluid at a time to remove this toxic fluid. The amount of mass and fluid filled my abdomen to the stage where it blocked, impeded, and mangled organs with my abdomen. Ouch! So painful. Some needle taps could not safely reach through my abdomen and it was necessary to tap through my pelvis to reach some cyst pockets. I continually met with doctors who told me my condition was benign! This fluid glowed like mountain dew. Sometimes it was brown and bloody during my more painful periods. Eventually it mangled my ovaries so severely they did metastasize I lost so much work. I lost my jobs. I couldn't find any doctors to help me, only experimental procedures tapping these fluid pockets. I finally found a wonderful surgeon Dr. Paul Sugarbaker, who not only finally was able to cut this complicated mass from my body but saved my life. Life isn't the same. I have ongoing challenges. But I have learned acceptance. I thank God every day for the days I have. I love life!

My daughter lived with this sore on her tongue for over a year. She woke up one morning in horrible pain and her tongue was black. She went to see her personal doctor, She sent Sarah to a ear, nose and throat doctor. That next day he did a biopsy on her tongue. The day after that 2-4-2010 she called me and told me she had cancer. My cancer presented atypically. My very first symptom was not enlarged lymph nodes or fevers or itching, but severe bone pain in my lower back that radiated down into my left leg. This persisted for several weeks before I began experiencing fevers and night sweats. Sed rate was elevated but not extraordinarily. Doctors were baffled. First they thought it was lupus and then RA and then they told me it was all in my head - growing pains or some other lame-ass diagnosis. The symptoms continued and steadily worsened over the next several months before somebody finally had the sense enough to do an MRI and bone scan. These revealed a lesion near the L-4 vertebrate. A biopsy was performed and although the lesion did not have the characteristic features of lumbar osteomyelitis, that was the pathological diagnosis and what I was treated for. I underwent placement of PICC line for intravenous treatment for osteomyelitis. A chest x-ray was performed afterward to confirm correct placement of PICC line. It was at this time the radiologist detected lesions on the x-ray. I was referred to the Mayo Clinic. A CAT scan with IV contrast showed extensive mediastinal enlargement, mediastinal and hilar adenopathy, and lesions in the pulmonary parenchyma. The lumbar portion of the CAT scan reveled lymphatic involvement in the spinal region that was previously biopsied. A mediastinoscopy was performed but all tissue that was removed was identified as normal thymus. The surgeon then performed a thoracotomy and biopsied a large perihilar lymph node. The final pathology report showed nodular sclerosing Hodgkin's disease in the the lung and hilar lymph node, making it a stage 4B lesion. It took six months from the onset of symptoms until a definitive diagnosis could be made. My case was so atypical. There was never any palpable lymph nodes until the very end. In fact, the diagnosis was made almost by accident---by a random chest x-ray to determine proper placement of PICC line. I underwent six cycles of ABVD/MOPP and radiation to chest and spine. NED as of April 1992. July 1992 I began experiencing night sweats and fevers. Sed rate was elevated but no palpable lymph nodes. CAT scan of chest in August 1992 revealed changes in the mediastinum which was suspicious of recurrence. Underwent biopsy at Mayo Clinic 8/92 but surgeon could find no evidence of disease. Symptoms continued unabated. Lesions evident on liver, but liver biopsy returned normal. A second thoracotomy a week later revealed Hodgkin's. Stage 4B with involvement in liver, spleen and anterior mediastinum. Returned home and received 3 cycles of DECAL salvage therapy followed by autologous hematopoietic stem cell transplant. NED as of 4/1993.
I actually didn't have any signs or symptoms. I woke up one day with a lump on my neck and we went from there.

A lump that grew up to 10cm (bigger than a baseball) beside my right breast (a few inches under the armpit, on the rib cage), swollen lymph nodes on the neck and right armpit, extreme fatigue, itchiness in the arms and legs, unexplained weightloss and loss of appetite
I was tired all the time, but blamed it on being the mother of three small children and working 2nd shift. I stopped playing with my kids outside or even going outside with them. I'd let them play while I dozed in and out. I also had asthma-like symptoms for over a year and was actually diagnosed with asthma...or should I say "misdiagnosed" with asthma. I had shortness of breath, wheezing, and coughing jags. I had pains in my neck, which I thought were kinks and suddenly one day when I started rubbing my neck on January 21, 2009 it felt like a huge bulge. That whole day I had a horrible feeling after that and finally called to make an appointment with my doctor.

Appendiceal Cancer Symptoms

What Appendiceal Cancer Survivors said about their Cancer Symptoms.

Over a period of 3 months, my weight began to shift. Everything was moving north instead of south. I chalked it up to aging and odd things the body did. An ultra sound showed a massive tumor on my right ovary (20 cm). During the week it took to see a specialist, it grew to 44 cm. Surgery took place the next day and it was found that the point of origin was the appendix.

Going through testing to rule out lung cancer. Had lung biopsy yesterday.
Almost-constant heavy bleeding with clots, especially heavy after sex. Pain in the pelvic area and numbness in legs. Extremely tired, feeling "not right" and bloated mid section. Normal pap (first one I've had in 12 years) and all tests normal so far, including pre-menopause (I'm 48). Feel like the doctor will just dismiss everything and tell me to learn to live with it all.
routine check-ups. routine check-ups. routine check-ups. the symptoms are vague and easily dismissed.

I am 38 female, mother of 5 boys (ages 7,9,11, 14, 16), breastfed 4 of them for almost a year each ( I mention this because nursing baby is supposed to help decrease risks of breast cancer, though not other cancers), have lots of cancer on moms side but I am adopted so I don't know much more and nothing of dad's side, Been feeling so sick and beaten down for a while now, Pain in neck at base of skull, dizziness, night sweats for many months now, migraines, nausea, pain in right breast (lumps) on lower right ribs (lumps) right wrist (ganglion cyst, non cancerous but hurts) burning sensation on skin in same specific spots on inside of left knee and left inside ankle (feels like on top of skin, not deep) vision issues (slight and random), aching in back between shoulder blades (feels like a huge weight of pressure) out of breath easy, muscle spasms under chin on right side, spasms in abdomen on right, spasms in back on right lower side, severe (like, stabbing) pain in groin on left side of pubic area and inside thigh groin area (cannot have sex, hurts groin terribly so that considered ER) aches in limbs then fades into tingles in feet and hands, clearing throat of thick mucus all the time, pain in arm at shoulder, elbow and wrist (on right) that then radiates and sudden weak feeling like I could fall over, so tired I could fall asleep anytime, so tired I am drowsy, have trouble working and sitting still without dozing no matter how I try (drink coffee, over the counter energy pills do NOTHING to bring me up to feeling normal at all, Trouble staying asleep (wake many times through the night (the sweating may have to do with that because it makes my sheets cold) during the day, freezing cold so bad I twitch and tremble, twitch terribly when trying to fall asleep, bad nightmares, pain wrapping around right ear from front to my neck, lost weight fast (from 158 to 120 in two months and another 13 over time but not trying at all) I have anxiety issues so I am not sure if it's related but anxiety has gone through the roof these past few months, much confusion and short term memory lately is almost gone at times (I have gotten to a point that before I walk into another room, I write down what I am doing) I am honestly a bitch lately (sorry) as I am so anxious and waiting for tests and word is freaking me out because I feel terrible all the time. I don't have a diagnosis, only what we are trying to rule out and what is can possibly be. I just want to know so I can know what I have ahead of me. I'd like to get some feedback from others. It's stressing the heck outta me!Anyone wanting to talk can also email me if you ask.

He had too much M protein in his urine. His orthopedist was going to give cortisone shot into hip and he had beginning neuropathy in feet. He was quite pale and his energy was down. Current PAP has come back normal. Doctor prescribed meds to help with bleeding but no relief so far. Feel like something is very wrong and afraid nothing will be done.
