I guess it all began on my 5th birthday. After months of bruising, nosebleeds, ear infections, chest colds, obnoxiously high fevers, and muscle pains so severe that I was unable to walk, I was diagnosed with ALL (acute lymphocytic leukemia). I went into remission a few months after treatment, and after a 3-year protocol I was pronounced a "full cure" at age 8. For 10 years I experienced absolutely no further symptoms, and just lived an extraordinarily normal & boring life without giving that stupid disease another thought. Then, I broke my arm. No big deal, right? Well, at my 10th annual follow-up checkup, I was told that - suprise! - I had localized osteosarcoma in my left radius (lower arm bone), and was in the early stages of AML (acute myelogenous leukemia). I underwent 1 year of chemo & radiation, as well as surgical removal of the osteogenic sarcoma & a bone graft (limb-salvage a complete success: my arm is still intact!). After going in and out of remission, I had a bone marrow transplant. 1 year later, I was pronounced in "full" remission, and discontinued all treatments the subsequent year. I had no further symptoms. 8 months ago I learned that my AML was no longer in remission. Here we go again :)

Originally thought to be pnuemonia, extreme pain in legs and back
Probly the whole summer before my diagnosis i began to feel fatigued. sometimes id experience feeling like i had low blood sugar and would have to sit down suddenly because i felt so awful. as it progressed i just dragged and dragged. at the time i worked at taco bell and was told i was the best worker but by the time i quit i certainly had dropped out of that position. its not that i was lazy but i was just so exhausted and had to call off alot. finaly i just didnt feel good. it was a jewish holiday and i was supposed to go to the celebration that night but i stayed home instead. i called off work for two weeks and only got worse. it got so bad that i spent the entire day and night sleeping. i was barely eating or drinking. i remember once putting a grape in my mouth and falling asleep immediately after. LOl or the time my friend called me and i asked him to hold a sec. i blew my nose forgot he was on the phone and fell asleep. 20 min later i woke up and saw he was still on the phone. lol i finaly saw a dr and they told me i had strep throat. after taking anti biotics for 10 days and no change i went to the ER. i was dangerously dehydrated, anemic, and had huge lumps on my shins that was tender like a bruise and very feverish. Ill always remember that day cuz i went into that ER and never came back out. it felt like forever waiting on different test results. when the doctor finaly came in and told us i didnt really understand. in fact i didnt even know that leukemia was a cancer. treatments started so fast it all blacked out and i dont really remember any of it. but there was my symptoms.

Severe Rectal bleeding brought me to ICU. Severe vaginal pain and anal pain from radiation, when using bathroom. Tired.
rectal bleeding, tumor schincter muscle
I thought I had hemorrhoids, internal and external. Had pain and bleeding. Went to my GP back in Feb for a pap and asked her to take a look- She said that it looked sore and gave me a surgeons name and she did not indicate that she thought it could be something more serious. As I did not want to have hemorrhoid surgery, I put off seeing the surgeon until Nov as I could no longer stand the pain. As soon as he took a look he knew it was cancer.

Further tests showed the polyp was misdiagnosed and was anal cancer. The whole process from first gp visit took six months.
blood in stool, changes in bowel habits
Blood in stool, and internal hemorrhoid was causing me some discomfort. I scheduled a colonoscopy to determine the cause of the rectal bleeding and they discovered a large polyp, due to its location they didn't remove it but assured me it was nothing to worry about, a simple procedure with a surgeon...2 weeks later I met with a colorectal surgeon and he decided to remove the tumor as it looked healthy and no real cause for concern (I'm 42 years old and in good health). As soon as it was removed I felt better and my body was bouncing back quickly. Three days later I received the call that it was squamous cell. After the PET CT we discovered 2 lymph nodes that are also impacted and in need of extra radiation. December 2nd will forever be a day that changed me but certainly won't define me.

Swelling above left carpal, limping. My vet had just lost her dog to osteosarcoma so took no chances - straight in for an xray, which suggested it could be bone cancer, so immediately referred to a Jindalee Vet Oncologist (Dr Terry) who took bone biopsies and did body scan. Scan showed no spread of cancer. Results received 16 April 2018 that it was bone cancer; shoulder and leg amputated 17 April 2018. Surgery site became infected, which delayed chemo for a week. Chemo finished 27 July 2018. Unfortunately cancer returned, found lump on my left side 3 weeks after chemo finished. Scan showed 2 nodules in my lung, too. Lump on side removed surgically (vet said it just "peeled" away, not attached to the rib). Had further chemo infusion (Doxorubicin) which finished 19 October, plus "home" chemo/meds (continuous). Scan while getting Doxorubicin showed lung nodules halved in size. Next scan on 21 December 2018 showed 1 lung nodule the same size, the other nodule had further reduced a little. Still on home chemo/meds. Next scan in February 2019.

Mesothelioma Cancer Symptoms

What Mesothelioma Cancer Survivors said about their Cancer Symptoms.

chronic cough, shortness of breath, weakness, fatigue, anemia
28 lb Mass of 100's of tumors stemming from my peritoneum. Basically your peritoneum allows your organs to glide around in your abdomen. It produces and absorbs fluid. My peritoneum stopped working correctly and continued to flood my abdomen with cyst pockets. I went for many therapy drains which included abdomen taps into these fluid pockets, draining 4 liters of fluid at a time to remove this toxic fluid. The amount of mass and fluid filled my abdomen to the stage where it blocked, impeded, and mangled organs with my abdomen. Ouch! So painful. Some needle taps could not safely reach through my abdomen and it was necessary to tap through my pelvis to reach some cyst pockets. I continually met with doctors who told me my condition was benign! This fluid glowed like mountain dew. Sometimes it was brown and bloody during my more painful periods. Eventually it mangled my ovaries so severely they did metastasize I lost so much work. I lost my jobs. I couldn't find any doctors to help me, only experimental procedures tapping these fluid pockets. I finally found a wonderful surgeon Dr. Paul Sugarbaker, who not only finally was able to cut this complicated mass from my body but saved my life. Life isn't the same. I have ongoing challenges. But I have learned acceptance. I thank God every day for the days I have. I love life!

Mass in the back of upper right thigh. Grew quickly. After radiation, surgery and chemo, had mets to lungs in three separate lobes. Have had three thoracatomy procedures and experimental whole lung radiation after multiple areas of spread throughout chest cavity. I have since had pread to my brain (one tumor) resected with a successful craniotomoy followed by whole brain radiation. I have been on 6 lines of chemo. While I was recovering from my brain procedures, was scanned and found multiple tumors throughout my liver. After exhausting all chemo options accessible for me, my doctor succeeded in obtaining Opdivo for me on compassionate grounds. I have been on this treatment for almost months, and happily, my tumors are responding, no new growth, multiple tumors no longer visible, decreased or stable. I was told that with these newest images, I have an area of concern on my uterus. I am getting tests next week for clarification on what this means.
I did not have any outward signs of a lump or rash etc. I initially noticed a slight ache is my left leg which did not go away. Then, as weeks passed, it was steadily becoming for obvious and the pain, though always an dull ache, at times became very sharp. No amount of Panadol or Anti Flams, even Coedine would touch the pain. My GP had me referred to a Physio as she thought it was Sciatica - so was seeing the Physio and having acupuncture - but this was making my pain worse and was getting unbearable. I notices my toes were now tingly and numb, this was when my GP referred me to hospital, and was admitted. After 8 weeks and been flown and then chopered to 3 different hospitals they found the huge tumor was throughout my whole Left side of pelvis and grown into my sciatic nerve - it was only that pain that indicated I had something wrong with me!!
