My joint pain had not subsided, and about two months later, I developed a deep cough and had difficulty swallowing. My daughter rushed me to the ER, and after I had a chest x-ray, I also had to get a PET scan and MRI. I knew my outlook was not good before we even got the results back. The oncologist found two spots on my lung, and the cancer had spread to two lymph nodes on the other side of my chest wall. Like is said- not good news, but I have an amazing team of physicians, and a supportive family to help me through this. I couldn't go through this without them. My family gives me something to live for!

Likewise my own doctor a week later pulled and twisted my leg and that and Prednisone got me back walking again with an Xray and MRI scheduled for 2 weeks down the road.
Swollen inguinal lymph node
Weight loss, then weight gain, fatigue/tiredness, "swollen glands" (or so they kept telling me until it was discovered that my neck was full of cancer), a general feeling of "otherness" -- even before the lumps became palpable, I felt something was off. I told several doctors, "I know this sounds crazy, but I feel like I'm living in someone else's body." Rectal bleeding //Found on a mammogram
In October of 2008, I started having fatigue symptoms and my legs were aching all the time, just to the outside of my shins. I felt full and had a lot of flatuence. My GP did bloodtests and discovered I was very low in the B6 vitamin. When questioned, he said that it was not a symptom (to his knowledge) of anything, although I did read it could have relavancy to cancer diagnosis later. I told him after taking supplements, that I still was not well and asked for a colonoscopy because I had had previous ones and they had removed polyps and told me I should have them once every 3 years, but then when I saw another doctor, she told me not to come back for 5 years, which would have been in 2009. He refused to let me have one. In March I saw the doctor again about irritation in my anal area and he said it was hemorroids. In April 2009, I did my own DRE and felt the lump was quite a bit bigger, then remembered what had happened the previous July. I went to the doctor, my own GP wasn't there, but I saw his colleague who told me it was most likely hemorroids and I insisted he set me up for a colonoscopy. When I called back a week later, they said they had not heard back from the specialist. I called the specialist's office who told me that they had not received the request. Fearful of the competancy of my GP's office, I went to a Walk In Clinic in a nearby town. The doctor was an older man, retired but volunteering his time at the clinic, he did a DRE, clearly told me I had a tumor and had me in to see a doctor in less than three days.... oh the difference between older humbled doctors and arrogant younger doctors who treat you like you are a hypocondriac! In the long run, I take responsibility for having not acted sooner on my own instincts, and I also feel the doctor who 'was' my GP at the time, needs to take responsibility for being so intent on keeping my records up to date and typing into the computer, that he didn't even listen to my symptoms... I recently was in the emerg for another reason and overheard a patient that was registering for care say "I do not want Dr "so and so", if I have to have him, I will leave and go to another hospital." Sometimes we are put in a place for a reason, if only to validate our experience with another. Oh, I had Mitomycin and 5FU - just wondering why that is not listed under Chemotherapy?
Small amount of blood in stools but no pain. Occurred about 5-6 times over a 6 month period. Gynecologist thought it was a hemorrhoid so she referred me to a colorectal surgeon for removal. But upon exam, surgeon thought it was too hard for a hemorrhoid. She recommended colonoscopy so it could be removed/biopsied. Biopsy showed cancer.
I had been experiencing problems for months and the doctor I was going to just basically blew me off. I told the doctor I was bleeding profusely, I was having pain, and I it felt like there was a mass in my ass! He performed a colonoscopy and he said everthing looked fine but I did have some non-bleeding internal hemorrhoids. I was not happy with the findings because I was bleeding and the pain was getting worse. He then had me swallow a camera and came to the same conclusion that I was fine. I called back and told them everything was not fine. The bleeding was getting worse and the pain was also increasing. They finally sent me to a colon rectal surgeon, who after five minutes of meeting me, did a digital exam and told me he was pretty sure I had anal cancer!

What Mesothelioma Cancer Survivors said about their Cancer Symptoms.
chronic cough, shortness of breath, weakness, fatigue, anemia
28 lb Mass of 100's of tumors stemming from my peritoneum. Basically your peritoneum allows your organs to glide around in your abdomen. It produces and absorbs fluid. My peritoneum stopped working correctly and continued to flood my abdomen with cyst pockets. I went for many therapy drains which included abdomen taps into these fluid pockets, draining 4 liters of fluid at a time to remove this toxic fluid. The amount of mass and fluid filled my abdomen to the stage where it blocked, impeded, and mangled organs with my abdomen. Ouch! So painful. Some needle taps could not safely reach through my abdomen and it was necessary to tap through my pelvis to reach some cyst pockets. I continually met with doctors who told me my condition was benign! This fluid glowed like mountain dew. Sometimes it was brown and bloody during my more painful periods. Eventually it mangled my ovaries so severely they did metastasize I lost so much work. I lost my jobs. I couldn't find any doctors to help me, only experimental procedures tapping these fluid pockets. I finally found a wonderful surgeon Dr. Paul Sugarbaker, who not only finally was able to cut this complicated mass from my body but saved my life. Life isn't the same. I have ongoing challenges. But I have learned acceptance. I thank God every day for the days I have. I love life!

I found a lump above my left collar bone. I had hives on my forearms and occasional night sweats.
Most notably, I was itching horribly, and I lost 25+ lbs. Also, I wasn't sleeping and had vivid nightmares and night sweats when I did. I had a lumpy neck, fatigue, a cough that lasted for months, and finally, my left lung had collapsed (which lead to the diagnosis).

I was tired all the time, but blamed it on being the mother of three small children and working 2nd shift. I stopped playing with my kids outside or even going outside with them. I'd let them play while I dozed in and out. I also had asthma-like symptoms for over a year and was actually diagnosed with asthma...or should I say "misdiagnosed" with asthma. I had shortness of breath, wheezing, and coughing jags. I had pains in my neck, which I thought were kinks and suddenly one day when I started rubbing my neck on January 21, 2009 it felt like a huge bulge. That whole day I had a horrible feeling after that and finally called to make an appointment with my doctor.

Got pneumonia twice and bronchitis multiple times from mid-January to my diagnosis and flight to Denver, CO to the hospital. Took four days of being in the hospital to actually get over that bout of pneumonia which had come back around St Patricks day after having felt better from when I had it in February. Also had a huge lump on my right peck that was bruised and nasty looking from very low platelet counts, other than that I felt a bit more fatigued than usual and having more trouble getting through my 10-14 hour work shifts when I didn't have trouble on the past when I got super long shifts like that.

What Appendiceal Cancer Survivors said about their Cancer Symptoms.
Over a period of 3 months, my weight began to shift. Everything was moving north instead of south. I chalked it up to aging and odd things the body did. An ultra sound showed a massive tumor on my right ovary (20 cm). During the week it took to see a specialist, it grew to 44 cm. Surgery took place the next day and it was found that the point of origin was the appendix.

No cancer diagnosis as of today, 21 Jan 2016 but heavy bleeding with clots, lasting over a week and only a few days in between. I've just started seeing a gyn doctor; last PAP was 12 years ago. Current PAP has come back normal. Doctor prescribed meds to help with bleeding but no relief so far. Feel like something is very wrong and afraid nothing will be done.
