Lumpectomy Surgeries

What Lumpectomy Surgery Cancer Survivors said about their Cancer Surgeries.

My first surgery was on September 22, 2005 where I had a lump in my breast removed. I got the call on September 26th that is was cancerous. My second re-excision surgery was on October 5th. The cancer reoccurred and was found on May 29, 2009. I am scheduled to have a mastectomy on Thursday June 11, 2009.
Lumpectomy with node removal on 7/3/2006.
I opted for a lumpectomy, mainly because I didn't want to lose my hair! Since the cancer was agressive and had traveled to my lymph nodes (7 out of 12), I went through chemo and lost my hair anyway. The surgery was October 2002. I had an emergency surgery to install a medi-port after the second chemo treatment because my veins went on strike. Next up: oophrectomy. They removed my ovaries. Oh to be in menopause at age 40. Is it hot in here to you?
March 28 2010 left Breast left the building.
1/24/07 - Lump was removed and biospied 2/13/07 - Lumpectomy with axillary disection
All went well.
I had a biospy first & it turned out positive of cancer. I then had another surgery, to check the lymph nodes, thank God, they were neg., after that one I got staff infection & boy it was worst pain than the surgery itself. I was on 1000 mg of infection for almost 2 wks. Well, after I found out I had cancer, I was in shock for around a mon. or so, so were my parents, we could not look at each other without crying. It felt like I had been given a death sentence. You know, when you hear the big "C" word, everyone thinks, the big "D" word & I'm here to tell you, it's not always true. Then one day I was talking to a friend & she told me, Denise, you have to take hold of this thing & show it your not a quiter. That your gonna fight this with all you got, cause if you don't, it'll take you over & it will win. Well, needless to say, something just clicked & I woke up & from then on I fought this thing & 3 years later, here I am.

Removal of the mass with good clean margins - aobut 10 cm of tissue in diameter. The surgeon then performed oncoplasty and brought tissue forward from my back (I think) to fill in the gap. My breast looks exactly the same as it did prior to surgery except for the scars. Amazing. Surgery September 24, 2008. It is completely healed, but the scars are still a deep purple color and they are numb.

5/20/09-lumpectomy, axillary dissection. Drain was hell, messy, embarrassing, it hurt having a 5 month old infant to care for, and it clogged once, and sent me to the ER...
Had a thyroidectomy March 2003 with an RAE131 ablation 8 weeks later, had residual thyroid cells on the thyroid bed ablated 18 months later. everything was GREAT until Oct. 2009 when I felt a bump on the side of my neck and my then endro. assured me that everyone had them, but then my Primary provider decided to send me to a thyroid specialist who first ordered a CT scan and then a Lymphectomy which proved to be cancerous with Papillary Cancer. Because of the Holidays and other scheduling conflicts on the doctor's part the surgery was put off until Feb 24 2010. I had a right neck dissection in which 28 Lymph Nodes were removed along with the outer jugular vein were removed. 8 of the 28 lymph nodes were canerous. Had 217 mCi of RAI June 16, 2010 had to wait until Nov. 30 to a PET scan which showed that the RAI had not killed the cancers and also that the cancers that were on the 4 lobes of the lungs had grown. I have now been diagnosed as a Pulmonary Mestastic Diesease patient.

1/4/11 - Lumpectomy. Had 3 lymph nodes taken out. Lymph nodes negative and had clear margins. Scars were minimal and healing was suprisingly very easy. The worst part about the whole surgery process was the injection of the radioactive substance the put in through my nipple as they "thought" I was numb enough to administer it. It was EXTREMELY painful!
surgery after chemo july 21st, lumpectomy with sentinel node biopsy and wires to locate ... not as bad as I thought it would be, less painful following surgery, faster recovery

Had a terible surgeon for my biopsy. Felt my whole biopsy, October 2009, and was in pain for days afterwards. For my lumpectomy, November 2009, changed to Dr. Fine, and my lumpectomy and sentinol node surgery was wonderful. too many surgeries. Since my recent diagnosis Feb 2, 2010 I have not had any surgeries. Nothing left to remove.
I was lucky that I only had to wait about one week to have surgery. It was so disappointing to know that I would have to have chemo. I woke up with the tube under my arm and knew that meant lymph nodes and chemo. Can't I do anything easy?

7 different surgeries between 2006 and 2010 July 2006 Wire Insertion for biopsy August 2006 Sentinel node surgery when biopsy that SHOULD have been nothing.. which is why nodes weren't checked with biopsy Sept 2006 Bilateral mastectomy with tissue expanders (the drains were AWFUL but they have garments now to keep the weight off the drain) April 2007 Exchange surgery (chose "gummy bears" which are silicone something or others still technically in clinical trial) Same surgery, Ovaries and tubes removed (BRCA test showed mutations on both genes, but of unknown significance. At 50, wasn't taking a chance by leaving them in) August 2007 Nipple reconstruction with fat injections to fill in hollow parts of chest (got a free tummy lipo) 2008-Cone biopsy due to bad pap (unrelated to BC) but when I called the oncologist screaming because I understood too many of the words in the pathology report from the colposcopy and he said, "cancer cells are there" but you don't need me... this is a surgical cancer...how comforting. October 2010 Complete hysterectomy (cervix included) using DaVinci System (robot) which was AMAZING.... this was the most "major" of all the surgeries and thanks to the robot, it was the easiest recovery, hands down.
Well, actually, the place where you enter the profile doesn't have enough options :) In November, 2011, lumpectomy at an outpatient clinic. Very easy. Clinic and doctor were great. Staff however, called me the day before to discuss money (I have insurance), which made things more stressful. They wanted cash up front, even though the insurance totally paid for it. They send a refund 2 months later.
Feb 11, clear lymph nodes, clean margins
