Mastectomy in Aug.'08 because dcis was in 2 places. Lumpectomy not an option and besides, I didn't have to have chemo or any other after treatment. Endometrial cancer caused complete hysterectomy in August '09. I am just now finished with 6 months of chemo and 28 radiation treatments. Both were hell. Chemo put me in the hospital the first two treatments. Dehydration, near kidney failure, hallucinations, dysentery, metal mouth made me not want to eat or drink. Open distal pancreatectomy and splenectomy is the type of surgery I had for my pancreatic cancer in January of 07..side effects..digestion issues....especially for the spicier foods that I love and anything gassy...peppers,cucumbers, onions, broccoli, and cabbage..must stay at a minimum and I hate this if I were to put any combo of 2 or more of these things in a salad I would be extremely ill. when I first came home from the hospital finishing a tv dinner was often more than I could handle. The good thing is the surgery actually improved my blood sugars and reduced my need for insulin.
only removal of my ovaries
January 2009: Hysterectomy and removal of ovarian masses turned into emergency surgery due to a bowel obstruction. The tumors were too large/difficult to remove at that time. The doctors decided to blast her with chemo, shrink the tumors and operate again in a few months. May 2009: Complete hysterectomy. Omentectomy. Tumor debulking. An ostomy was created. Septemper 2009: More tumor debuking/removal. The ostomy was reversed (yay!) September 2010: Admitted to hospital for bowel obstruction. Had gastrostomy surgery. PEG tube(Percutaneous Endoscopic Gastrostomy) inserted to help decompress stomach contents and to prevent and manage nausea/vomiting.
December 2010: After an unsuccessful abdominal surgery, she was discharged and began Home Hospice Care. So far, her symptoms and pain are being managed. We are positive, upbeat and cherishing the moments we have together.

January 7th, 2011: My mom passed away at home. I held her until the end. Her body went in to acute renal failure and she became unresponsive. She held on for two days and passed away peacefully and as comfortably as possible. I had surgery in May 2007 and have been cancer-free for 3 1/2 years. Then all of a sudden I had some very slight spotting again, so I went to my doctor who did a biopsy on a nodule he found in a gyn exam. It turned out to be cancerous, so I will have an operation on January 4th to remove the quarter-sized tumor. I think radiationn treatment will follow. I will know soon enough, but I am very apprehensive about the results of the operation. I did not think I would have a recurrence of the cancer after 3 1/2 years, but now I am worried because I did not reach that "5-year cured benchmark." My father had melanoma and died at about the five year point.
I had a radicl hysterectomy on October 28th. The gas pains were the worst part of all. My tummy was very bloated for about 2 weeks. I just tried to walk every day to the end of my street and back to get moving again. The pain from surgery was not bad itwas just he gas.
Omendectomy to remove some larger tumors that were attached to it worst operation to date, 6 weeks to recover, stomach shape is crazy!

7 different surgeries between 2006 and 2010 July 2006 Wire Insertion for biopsy August 2006 Sentinel node surgery when biopsy that SHOULD have been nothing.. which is why nodes weren't checked with biopsy Sept 2006 Bilateral mastectomy with tissue expanders (the drains were AWFUL but they have garments now to keep the weight off the drain) April 2007 Exchange surgery (chose "gummy bears" which are silicone something or others still technically in clinical trial) Same surgery, Ovaries and tubes removed (BRCA test showed mutations on both genes, but of unknown significance. At 50, wasn't taking a chance by leaving them in) August 2007 Nipple reconstruction with fat injections to fill in hollow parts of chest (got a free tummy lipo) 2008-Cone biopsy due to bad pap (unrelated to BC) but when I called the oncologist screaming because I understood too many of the words in the pathology report from the colposcopy and he said, "cancer cells are there" but you don't need me... this is a surgical cancer...how comforting. October 2010 Complete hysterectomy (cervix included) using DaVinci System (robot) which was AMAZING.... this was the most "major" of all the surgeries and thanks to the robot, it was the easiest recovery, hands down.
My surgery was 1/31/11 to remove ovary w/ tumor and uterus. After tumor was tested positive for cancer, other ovary, cervix, tubes, appendix, and wall of fat (can't remember the medical term), all removed. No adverse effects of surgery. I healed quickly and without incident.

My mom was in surgery about 5 days later. By this time she was absolutely miserable b/c of the fluid which had built up in her belly. My mom is a tiny woman, 5ft and just over 100lbs and the doctor removed 6 LITERS of fluid during the surgery. She also removed, in her words, "anything that my mom didn't need" which included: ovaries, F tubes, uterus, cervix, appendix, omentum, and any cancer that had "planted" itself on her lining, diaphram, and colon intestines. (Just in case there is anyone out there who is clueless like I was: She did this with a suction devise that she said literally sucks the cancer right off. She also explained that just because the cancer is on the surface of an area or organ does not mean that it has metastasized to that organ/area. That was much welcomed news to me!)
April 11, 2008 - lumpectomy. Other than slight soreness and tenderness, I felt great after my lumpectomy and had little pain. I found it enormously annoying that I couldn't shower without wrapping it in Saran wrap, couldn't lift anything, do much, and couldn't drive, but I felt good and didn't have to use pain medication. The only weird thing was that my right nipple was pointed to the right of my body (rather than facing front) and appeared to be dented and creased, which took some getting used to. Today my breast looks more normal, but it is still slightly creased and dented. The breast is smaller and I have to wear padded underwire bras for symmetry, but at least my nipple is facing front again! On December 11,2008 I had to have a total and complete hysterectomy since the cancer was hormonally driven. Since I could not take Tamoxifen or Arimedex as they are potent hormone/antihormone drugs and could give me a recurrence, a hysterectomy was my only option. I had it done via the DaVinci robot at Sloan Kettering...it was a Laparoscopic Vaginal hysterectomy. Physically I was tired at first, but I actually felt great...I was pain free for the first time in 40 + years. But hormonally and mentally? I was a wreck for a long time, especially since I was estrogen dominant and my estrogen levels were far higher than those of other women in menopause. It lasted for a year plus and threw me into a devastating depression (mixed with major anger) for almost 3 years.
