What Pancreas Cancer Survivors said about their Cancer Surgeries.

1. ERCP set for 5 Feb 07.
August 2004 tumor removed from pancreas and took part of pancreas with it and removed the spleen. My father was told that he would not have to have chemo and that he would live a normal life that they got all the cancer and that was it. We should have made him get a second opinion you see the cancer that he was diagnosed with is very rare about 1 in 25 million people. the doctors didn't know enough about it. well two years later he started having the same symtoms as before very low blood sugars (he is not diabetic) so when he went back to the doctors they discovered that he had several very large tumors on and in his liver. We took him to MAYO's where he had a seven hour long surgery and had several complications, PE, and phrenic artery bleed. We know now that this cancer can not be cured or treated with chemo and that the tumors will be comming back. We just got back from Mayo's this last week and they found 2 more new spots on his CT. We go back in Jan. He is not ready for another surgery it has only been 7mos since the last one. I would love to hear from any one who knows anything about this cancer.
Whipple, March 2008
surgery not an option
Dad had a Whipple procedure on 2/15/10. The tumor was completely removed along with 12 lymph nodes (only one tested positive). His side effects have been pain, nausea, gas build up, bile build up and hiccups which caused him to start throwing up the bile so bad he had to go to the ER. Finally found the right combination of medication to get rid of all of the side effects.
Had Whipple surgery done on 2/15
exploratory surgery
Open distal pancreatectomy and splenectomy is the type of surgery I had for my pancreatic cancer in January of 07..side effects..digestion issues....especially for the spicier foods that I love and anything gassy...peppers,cucumbers, onions, broccoli, and cabbage..must stay at a minimum and I hate this if I were to put any combo of 2 or more of these things in a salad I would be extremely ill. when I first came home from the hospital finishing a tv dinner was often more than I could handle. The good thing is the surgery actually improved my blood sugars and reduced my need for insulin.
had tuomor and part of pancreas and 9 lymph nodes along with spleen removed in Dec. 2001...just post-op pain...Dec. 2005 R.F.A. on liver along with resection...same with post-op
had the whipples operation in feb 2009 u go into having that operation knowing that u might not wake up it is like cutting u in half and ripping half ur insides out they took most of the pancrease out part of my stomach part of my bowel and my gall blader the fist 12 hours after that finds out if u are going to survive or not my blood pressure droped that much they couldnt even find it i have never gone through so much pain but the end result was worth it
Distal Pancreatectomy July 29, 2011
The pain I see him go threw... It just about kills me...
Had the whipple procedure performed 12/11
Whipple performed immediatly following diagnosis. Weight loss, depression, pain, high blood pressure, nausea and vomiting, overall weakness
Bile duct stent placed in December, and reconstructed twice in April. Amniocentisis, April. Lots of pain in near the lungs. Bone marrow drawn, nothing was found, praise the Lord!
had an ERCP and had a stint put in my bile duct, since mass was pushing on it the duct and caused liver problems. became johndis until stint was put in and took a few weeks to get better before chemo could start.
Inoperable
Whipple procedure on May 17, 2012. I can eat anything that I want but have the side effect of having to have a bowel movement after every meal.......sometimes diarrhea but always unformed. This has caused me to lose a total of 45 pounds since surgery. I have been able to maintain my weight at 145 now because I eat at least every 2 hours if not more often.
Gallbladder surgery that discovered the tumors, urethral stent implanted. No side effects.
Whipple Procedure performed January 19, 2010 at Columbia Presbyterian. The cancer was staged at 2b, with positive margins and lymph nodes.

Whipple procedure 12/01/2015. No side effects really at all. I was extremely lucky. I was off work for three months and now just about back to normal.
After almost a year of hearing No/Yes/Maybe my Dad had his Whipple at JH in Baltimore in March, after one week we went home. They also gave him electroporation to treat the tumor that had been resting on the artery.
