A chemo port was surgically installed just under my collar bone. After I completed 2 rounds of chemo and 7 weeks of radiation, my tumor was much smaller but still there. I switched hospitals from Jefferson Univ. in Phila. to Sloan Kettering in NYC. To determine if the remaining tumor was still cancerous, I had a surgical biopsy, going into the tumor through the anal wall. That identified some irregular cells but no cancer. Since they were sure there was still some cancer, I had a second biopsy done by interventional radiology, going into the tumor through my back while viewing via CT scan to be sure they were in the right place. Still no cancer! Yay! Later I had my appendix removed; it had been damaged by the radiation.

i had a colonoscopy in Sept of 2014. They found a small lesion just above the dentate line. This was termed AIN 2. In Nov of 2014 they did a biopsy on what they termed a lesion and then destroyed it with electrocautery. The biopsy showed an invasive squamous cell cancer. It was moderately differentiated and it was arising within a background of high- grade dysphasia. The Doctor didn't notify me with results for three weeks. He then called and said I have invasive cancer and would call back in a week after he met with his cancer board. I called him a week later and decided to change doctorrs and went to a research hospital. The new doctor said he thought chemo and radiation at this point was an extreme measure and we should watch it every three months. Did CT scan and MRI both normal. Another spot was identified in May 2016. Excision was preformed June 2016. Didn't get clean margins and that lymph- vascular invasion was present.
