On April 19th 2018, I had a Port-a-Cath placed in the right side of my chest. I didn't feel it at first. It didn't bother me. But then came the first needle change. The port is like a small disc that sits inside a pocket of muscle near my heart. A tube directly transports blood products, chemotherapy, and antibiotics directly into my system without having to wait. If it gets messed with too much or the needle goes into the wrong place, I can feel all of it. After a while though, I forget it's there. Until my little brother hugs me too tight or my shirt scrunches under the seatbelt and digs into the scar.
