My Mom's ExperienceViews: 936

I am posting this for my mom as a way to 1) ask for your feedback and 2) provide information for other new patients.

My mom was diagnosed with Large Diffuse B Cell NHL. It started as a grape sized swelling near her Adam’s Apple. By August 14th it had grown to the size of a baseball.

She started RChop chemo on August 21st and had an infusion reaction the first day. Her throat began to close and she shook uncontrollably. They gave her more medication and Demoral to combat the symptoms and were able to resume the treatment. Scared her to death though! We had read the 1st round was the easiest. Hardly!

The next day she received CHOP and had terrible stomach issues (diarrhea followed by extreme bloating), swelling and water retention, very sore throat, headache, body aches. She is taking Prednisone, Bactrim, Allopurinol, Emend, Protonix, and Coumadin to help but still feels horrible. She is now scared to go for the second round but knows she has to.

Has anyone else experienced this many side effects on the first round? Does it get worse the next round? What can we do to help her feel better (without taking yet another pill)? I am looking for advice on diet ideas or other non medicinal relievers.

Thank you and God Bless all going through this!

Wow, that does seem to be an extreme reaction though I am not at all familiar with that type of chemo. I am sure she is quite scared of doing another round. I will most certainly keep her and you in my prayers for she is very fortunate to have you at her side. Hugs, Patty
