List that of things to do to peventing LymphedemaViews: 419

Here is a list that I have for preventing lymphedema.
Don’t carry suitcases or a briefcase with that arm.
Do not wear tight filling or elasticized cuffs, tight sleeves or tight jewelry such as rings wristwatches or bracelets on that side.
Avoid injections, vaccinations and drawing of blood from the affected arm.
Wear loose rubber gloves when washing dishes. Do not expose the hand or arm to excessive temperatures.
Keep the affected side covered when you are out in the sun. Use sunscreen and avoid sunburn.
Avoid insect bites and stings by using protective insect repellents.
Pamper your arm by carrying your purse or packages on the other side.
Don’t push heavy furniture with that arm.
Wash cuts promptly, treat them with antibacterial medication and cover them with sterile dressing. Change the dressing and check cuts often for redness, soreness, or other signs of infection.
Avoid burns while cooking or smoking.
Wear a thimble when sewing to avoid pin pricks.
Wear gloves or mitts when gardening and working with sharp objects or hot objects.
Use a mitt when taking hot dishes out of the oven.
Use an electric razor to avoid cutting this area. Underarm shaving may be a problem for awhile because of the lack or mobility or numbness, so take great care.
Never pick or cut cuticles or hang nails. Use cream cuticle remover for nail care. Apply lanolin hand cream to hand and arm several times a day.
Though you should be cautious, it is also important to use your arm normally. Don’t favor it or keep it dependent.
If you notice pain, swelling, or redness on your scar or arm with or without fever being present, call your doctor

The above is information on the Breastcancer2 I wanted to pass it on.Sherri

This is great info. Thanks Sherri…Grace
