What Breast Cancer Survivors said about their Cancer Symptoms.
I found a lump in my right breast during a self-breast exam.
None. I found my evil lump while showering, and even after I and my doc could feel it, the mammogram was "clear." It was then seen on ultrasound and MRI. NO family history. Genetic tests (BRCA 1 & 2) negative. During routine scans after breast cancer dx, a mass was found in my head. Turns out in addition to the bc, I have a benign meningioma - a brain tumor. My neurologist tells me these grow slowly and we can zap it with rads later, so I'll deal with that after I finish chemo and radiation for the breast cancer.
Sharp pain across my right breast like a streak of lighting.
My history started with a routine mammogram March 3, 2010. Showing presence of abnormal calcifications. I underwent stereotactic biopsy of these calcifications showing presense of high-grade DCIS. Subsequently, I have undergone bilateral mastectomy with left breast being prophylactic on March 30, 2010 with immediate reconstruction. The pathology and the mastectomy showed at 1.5-mm, invasive, component, grade 3. Invasive carsinoma in the setting of DCIS. ER/PR+ at 90 and 90% respectively. HER-2/neu is 3+ I am BRCA1 and BRCA2 negative for this mutation. Removed 5 lymph nodes, they were all negative.

I was taking so many different antidepressants, antibiotics and other medications, I was beginning to wonder why I still felt so bad when I could barely feel at all... My third general physician sent me for my annual chest x-ray as I was a smoker. A small spot was found on my right upper lung. Referred to a pulmonologist, a CT scan was performed revealing a 1.6cm nodule with stellate margins. A Pet scan was performed revealing several areas of concern in both lungs. I started logging this "journey" from MY perspective. The thoughts, feeling and poetry from someone who loves someone...who has cancer.

I suddenly had severe abdominal pain and 103 fever. After a week of antibiotic treatment for suspected (never found) GI infection, an ultrasound revealed an 8 cm mass near the ovary. The mass was removed during a complete hysterectomy and found to be lymphoma. PET scan showed 6 other lymph node involvement including the bone. Once the mass was removed, I have had no other symptoms!
Pain in left leg. Progressed to a limp, a hop, 1 crutch, 2 crutches, a walker, and a wheelchair before my diagnosis. Four months before anyone figured out what was wrong. I'm fairly certain I've had follicular lymphoma for at least 10 years before it got so bad.

Painless Lump in Neck and Groin
I had no symptoms at all, except for a bump on the top of my head that kept growing. I decided to have it surgically removed, thinking it was a sebaceous cyst or even a hematoma. When I awoke from the surgery I learned that not only had I had a serious reaction to the Ancef (antiobiotic) that they gave me preoperatively and if I had not been intubated I may not have survived, but also that I had a "tumor" and not a cyst. I got the results on March 19th in the morning and I was stunned.

No symptoms, and no primary found on skin or otherwise. A solitary pulmonary nodule was found via unrelated CT scan of my chest. Monitoring revealed that the nodule grew from 6.6mm to 1.1cm within 4 months, so surgery was opted. It was the surgical pathology which revealed the cancer, and later the full pathology as melanoma.
I found a lump under my right arm and after many tests, the final result was melanoma.
Just a discoloration on my upper arm; had been there for years, but had developed a black quadrant, and had a "buzzy" feeling on occasion. One caregiver had told me it was "nothing", years ago. When I started this new doctor, he said "let's take a look at it", and sure enough, it was the dreaded melanoma.

LOl or the time my friend called me and i asked him to hold a sec. i blew my nose forgot he was on the phone and fell asleep. 20 min later i woke up and saw he was still on the phone. lol i finaly saw a dr and they told me i had strep throat. after taking anti biotics for 10 days and no change i went to the ER. i was dangerously dehydrated, anemic, and had huge lumps on my shins that was tender like a bruise and very feverish. What Mesothelioma Cancer Survivors said about their Cancer Symptoms.
chronic cough, shortness of breath, weakness, fatigue, anemia
28 lb Mass of 100's of tumors stemming from my peritoneum. Basically your peritoneum allows your organs to glide around in your abdomen. It produces and absorbs fluid. My peritoneum stopped working correctly and continued to flood my abdomen with cyst pockets. I went for many therapy drains which included abdomen taps into these fluid pockets, draining 4 liters of fluid at a time to remove this toxic fluid. The amount of mass and fluid filled my abdomen to the stage where it blocked, impeded, and mangled organs with my abdomen. Ouch! So painful. Some needle taps could not safely reach through my abdomen and it was necessary to tap through my pelvis to reach some cyst pockets. I continually met with doctors who told me my condition was benign! This fluid glowed like mountain dew. Sometimes it was brown and bloody during my more painful periods. Eventually it mangled my ovaries so severely they did metastasize I lost so much work. I lost my jobs. I couldn't find any doctors to help me, only experimental procedures tapping these fluid pockets. I finally found a wonderful surgeon Dr. Paul Sugarbaker, who not only finally was able to cut this complicated mass from my body but saved my life. Life isn't the same. I have ongoing challenges. But I have learned acceptance. I thank God every day for the days I have. I love life!

With the Hodgkin’s I had a pain in my chest that I tried to ignore. When a guttural cough started, it was thought to be a bronchial problem. Four month later, I started feeling like I was literally drowning and could not get my breath, especially while lying down. I knew there was a deeper problem - but did not want to admit it. Before being diagnosed with the blood cancer I was feeling very dizzy and weak – I had such pain in my bones and knew something was wrong. This went on for months, but my doctor said I was just depressed … even with my history. It took a stroke for him to look deeper. The only way I can describe how I feel at times I feel as if my spine was drying out – or that I need a good oiling! When they did a spinal tap there was very little fluid. I think we need to listen to what our bodies are telling us and hopefully the doctors will too.

What Appendecial Cancer Survivors said about their Cancer Symptoms.
Over a period of 3 months, my weight began to shift. Everything was moving north instead of south. I chalked it up to aging and odd things the body did. An ultra sound showed a massive tumor on my right ovary (20 cm). During the week it took to see a specialist, it grew to 44 cm. Surgery took place the next day and it was found that the point of origin was the appendix.
