Lumpectomy Surgeries

What Lumpectomy Surgery Cancer Survivors said about their Cancer Surgeries.

1999 and 2009 - Excellent condition post-op.
1st surgery, Feb. 7th,2006, 2nd surgery March 10.2006, and final surgery April 7th,2006. The last surgery I ended up in the hospital for 16 days because of complications from the surgery.
Lumpectomy and Sentinel Node Biopsy scheduled for December 9th
May, 1998 hysterctomy; July, 1999 corrective surgery; abdominoplasty to help with healing. 2005 double mastectomy; floating met.
they put the blue dye in my live diseased breast on 04-26-04, then as they put me to sleep they acccidently gave me a shot of adrenalyn (sp) so I had to redo the blue dye on 04-28-04 on my 18th anniversary after they had checked to make sure there was no cardiac danger.
Lumpectomy and nodal dissection Sept 24, 2009. No side effects other than drainage and mooshed up boobs from the bandages.
Lumpectomy. Node dissection.
Lumpectomy and ancillary dissection: right breast in 1991, left breast in 1992. Lung biopsy in 2002. No significant side effects with breast surgeries, lung biopsy was difficult and I had problems healing.
Lumpectomy, biopsy to right breast
sorry dont know all the terminology, here in the uk we are not as informed,by the doctors, lymph gland removed by surgery, just the normal side effects from minor sugery
Partical double mastectomy/lymph nodes removed Dec. 15th, 2010 Where the lymph nodes were removed had fluid build up was very sore.
My first surgery was on September 22, 2005 where I had a lump in my breast removed. I got the call on September 26th that is was cancerous. My second re-excision surgery was on October 5th. The cancer reoccurred and was found on May 29, 2009. I am scheduled to have a mastectomy on Thursday June 11, 2009.
July 28, 2006 - Partial Mastectomy with lymph node removal. Aug. 28, 2006 - Port Placement in left arm.
Just had second surgery recently and a portacat put in. Chemo soon.
Bilateral Mastectomy and Recon not determined
Lumpectomy, with sentinal node biopsey followed by re-excession to obtain clear margins.
Had my surgery last March 22, 2004 . I had the lumpectomy and negative for my lymph nodes.
Had a lumpectomy with taking the sentinel lymph node (no involvement) on 7 May 2007. No noticeable side effects. Had a "balloon" inserted at surgery time in prep for MammoSite 5-Day Targeted Radiation Therapy. Started radiation the following week.
I opted for a lumpectomy, mainly because I didn't want to lose my hair! Since the cancer was agressive and had traveled to my lymph nodes (7 out of 12), I went through chemo and lost my hair anyway. The surgery was October 2002. I had an emergency surgery to install a medi-port after the second chemo treatment because my veins went on strike. Next up: oophrectomy. They removed my ovaries. Oh to be in menopause at age 40. Is it hot in here to you?
7/10/08--Lumpectomy, 1 sentinel node, and 2 other nodes removed. Nodes were free of cancer.
Excision 11/2, then re-excision 11/15, then bilateral mastectomy 12/15 when they couldn't get everything. Also had port placement in my left subclavian.
Lumpectomy, sentinel node biopsy 10th jan 2014. Axillary clearance removal of 10 lymph nodes 29th Jan 2014
Lumpectomy on 7/23/09 no bad side effects from surgery.
2/16/2011 first scheduled surgery - endured preparation (i.e. radio isotope injection for lymph node mapping) mamogram for wire localization showed 2 new unknown masses. After surgeon review, 20 minutes prior to surgery - cancelled and advised I needed another biopsy. I was emotionally destroyed and broke down sobbing. I withdrew inward and was unable to speak to anyone, including my husband, for 2 days. I then underwent another (new and more involved) excruciating biopsy. Thankfully they were benign. Surgeon called on Thursday and surgery rescheduled following Monday 2/28/11. I was extremely quiet and reserved which bothered both my husband and surgeon. When asked what was going on, I said I didn't believe or trust anyone or anything, and until I was laying on the operating table, I could not get my hopes, belief up that my cancer was being removed. Surgery was a little more than I expected and had minor complications with extreme vomitting (anesthesia and pain meds) and stayed over-night. I had to have stomach meds 1/2 hour before taking any pain control meds to eliminate vomitting for next 4 weeks. Also woke up to severe pain in opposite shoulder (way I was positioned during surgery) and still have pain and numbness in thumb. I just began physical therapy last week, while there for daily radiation treatments. Will advise progress.
May 27 2011, lumpectomy, clear margins, centinal lymph nodes removed, ca positive plus 16 other nodes removed due to having implants and not sure the radiation was going to get them. All 16 were negative.

Re-excision Surgeries

What Re-excision Surgery Cancer Survivors said about their Cancer Surgeries.

3/7/08 - colon resection. We're talking some pretty serious pain & discomfort here...
Lymph node biopsy and re-excision in May 2007, 2 days after coming home from Honeymoon
August 2004 tumor removed from pancreas and took part of pancreas with it and removed the spleen. My father was told that he would not have to have chemo and that he would live a normal life that they got all the cancer and that was it. We should have made him get a second opinion you see the cancer that he was diagnosed with is very rare about 1 in 25 million people. the doctors didn't know enough about it. well two years later he started having the same symtoms as before very low blood sugars (he is not diabetic) so when he went back to the doctors they discovered that he had several very large tumors on and in his liver. We took him to MAYO's where he had a seven hour long surgery and had several complications, PE, and phrenic artery bleed. We know now that this cancer can not be cured or treated with chemo and that the tumors will be comming back. We just got back from Mayo's this last week and they found 2 more new spots on his CT. We go back in Jan. He is not ready for another surgery it has only been 7mos since the last one. I would love to hear from any one who knows anything about this cancer.

Total laryngectomy, thyroid removal.
craniotomy on 1/30/09 with ability to speak better immediately but still needs lots of speech therapy.
anal excision Oct. 5, 2009, no side effects other than minor discomfort

Oct 06, left-frontal lobe. I had a lot of problems but the one I will shake my head about is: the doc shaved my head. Before going into surgery. he said he would only shave where he was cutting. When I woke up, I found he shaved half of my head. I had long hair! The major side effect is: I now have major headaches. I am in pain every single day! It is never ending. At night time, it is even worse.
THE DID A COMPLETE RESECTION OF THE TUMOR, MADDY WAS UNCOMFORTABLE WITH ALL THE WIRES BUT WITHIN A WEEK SHE WAS UP AND RUNNING
Spinal Tumor removed in Fall of 2009. Two surgeries at the Mayo Clinic
I also had a heart transplant almost 14 years ago. So I already have a compromised immune system already.... I have HPV and had cervical displasia 10 years ago. So I feel somewhat pre disposed to getting this type of cancer....

November 5, 2009, bilateral mastectomy and sentinal node biopsy. The most painful (and I'm not joking at all) of this process other than standing up in the middle of the night to walk..was the dye injection for the sentinal node biopsy. Its inhuman to put anyone through this procedure while they are still lucid.
October 2012, bi-lateral mastectomy with immediate reconstruction.
Double mastectomy with no reconstruction on August 11, 2009. I had a very good surgical experience. No real side-effects other than some persistent numbness around the two large scars, encompassing my entire chest. 1989 had a masectomy. It was in all my ducts of my breast. But I caught in early enough that it did not affect my lymph nodes so I did not need any radiation or chemotherapy. In 2000 I had a bilateral Tram flap reconstructive procedure
12/29/06 - Left breast lumpectomy, reconstruction. Removal of five lymph nodes all negative.
Double mastectomy with tissue expanders placed at surgery. Developed psudemonas twice and had to have right expander removed.
Hopefully a lumpectomy after chemo has shrunken the mass; otherwise a mastectomy; reconstructive surgery. Post Op. note: bilateral mastectomy after two attempts at lumpectomy - good thing because undetected cancer was found in both nipples. It's all in a jar now!
12/12 Mastectomy, with 29 cancerous lymphs removed Reconstructive surgery immediately following (TRAM flap)
Unilateral mastectomy (October 2008) with immediate reconstruction with tissue expander which was replaced with silicone implant July 2009.
We all had colon surgery @ same time in January 2006. Bart's cancer had penetrated his colon, and infected his liver, lung, and brain. He has been under chemo for many months. Brian had entire colon removed, but retains his rectum. Bruce had about 2 feet removed. Both Brian and Bruce had surgery again, due to complications. It all hurt like heck. But today, we all three are doing great.

Lymph Node Removal Surgeries

What Lymph Node Removal Surgery Cancer Survivors said about their Cancer Surgeries.

Radical trechelectomy with lymph node removal on January 21, 2010. Slight nausea for the first three days. Definitely should not have sneezed on the 10th day. Hysterectomy, appendectomy, ovary transposition, and repositioning of bowel fat pad on March 11, 2010. Some acid reflux at 48 hour mark, but I feel better overall after this second surgery.
February 10, 2010 - Surgery went extremely well...removed all visible signs of cancer from diaphragm, liver, colon, as well as omentum and complete hysterectomy. Appendix came out as well (seems to be the protocol). My mother became very depressed and was given anti-depressants.
surgery after chemo july 21st, lumpectomy with sentinel node biopsy and wires to locate ... not as bad as I thought it would be, less painful following surgery, faster recovery
I was lucky that I only had to wait about one week to have surgery. It was so disappointing to know that I would have to have chemo. I woke up with the tube under my arm and knew that meant lymph nodes and chemo. Can't I do anything easy?
May 30th, 2011. Ron underwent a 20 hour surgery with 6 surgeons. Incredible really, they did what others said could not be done. He had a Cranial Facial resection, including a free flap on the eye, Neck Dissection, removal of the eye and orbit and small portions of bone. They also removed a very minute amount of tissue from the left lobe of his brain. Skin graft to the arm and leg...
Robotic only 5 small holes. Removed uterus, ovaries, tubes, cervix, 5 funky looking lymph nodes (1 had small amount of cancer), upper part of vagina. Done May 2011
First surgery was 1/6/14 to remove large mass and create an ileostomy. Surgery went great(Robotic--6 hours) but my body didn't want to be as positive about everything. Lost all appetite for several days and then began vomiting if I drank any fluids. After doing a Small Bowel xray, found a small narrowing near the site of the ileostomy but was believed to be swelling. I would actually have a few good days here and there which made me feel like I was improving and just had to wait for my body to respond to this new life. Remained in the hospital for 9 days but was hoping to leave after 4 or 5. After I got home, the ileostomy bag---which is no fun, but only temporary, would do it's thing for the most part but there were days where I would get little to nothing in the bag for a whole day. That's when I knew something wasn't right. Eventually it would start working so the surgeon kept a very close eye on progress. Suddenly, on the 3rd week post op, I started cramping which increased over a 3 day period to the point it felt I was having labor pains every 4 to 6 minutes. I couldn't sleep, eat or rest at any point but I was determined to handle this on my own and get thru it. Not a smart move. Finally made an appointment with my surgeon( who I love) on the 3rd day from Hell, he took one look at me and said we need to do emergency surgery and reverse the ileostomy. I had a small bowel obstruction after all. My tumor was so close to the sphincter muscle that he was afraid I hadn't given the surgical area enough time to heal but the reversal actually went well. Obviously if the sphincter muscle isn't strong, it can result in fecal incontinance. That second surgery was 1/31/14. Had a third surgery on 2/21/14 to place a Purple power port and do an anal dilatation because I was getting very uncomfortable in the anal region. Sadly, another complication I am dealing with is a neurogenic bladder, meaning I haven't been able to empty my bladder normally since the first surgery. My urologist believes this will return to normal but can't give me any time frame to expect. Having to self cath myself at this time, which isn't horrible but not very practical or convenient when working full time and being very active.
3 bone marrow biopsies lumpectomy of left side of neck failed insertion of chest port (too much swelling underneath) successful insertion of arm port chest catheter insertion, removal
neck resection and removal of 55 glands of which 4 lymph nodes were cancerous but luckily encapsulated

Hysterectomy Surgeries

What Hysterectomy Surgery Cancer Survivors said about their Cancer Surgeries.

DaVinci Robot Assisted Radical Hysterectomy and Bilateral Lymphadenectomy (kept both ovaries). 5 incisions in abdomen, little pain, quick recovery (up walking around that night and home the next day). Only took pain medicine for 3 days. The biggest nuisance was the catheter. I had a UTI (urinary tract infection) with bladder spasms 5 days after my surgery. Once the catheter was removed and antibiotics started, I felt much better. Went back to work 5 weeks after surgery. Some right front thigh numbness and annoying, dull ache were lymph nodes were removed. No complaints!

Mastectomy in Aug.'08 because dcis was in 2 places. Lumpectomy not an option and besides, I didn't have to have chemo or any other after treatment. Endometrial cancer caused complete hysterectomy in August '09. I am just now finished with 6 months of chemo and 28 radiation treatments. Both were hell. Chemo put me in the hospital the first two treatments. Dehydration, near kidney failure, hallucinations, dysentery, metal mouth made me not want to eat or drink. If I can say it again : Hydrate all day every day!
Complete hysterectomy, July 17, 2005. I had a blood clot that travelled. Also still have a hernia from the surgery. Not to mention a very large scar on my abdomin.
I'll be having a complete hysterectomy. But before that I have to have a cardioseal implanted in my heart, so that will be scheduled first. Hopefully, within the next two weeks, because we need to get moving on this!

My mom was in surgery about 5 days later. By this time she was absolutely miserable b/c of the fluid which had built up in her belly. My mom is a tiny woman, 5ft and just over 100lbs and the doctor removed 6 LITERS of fluid during the surgery. She also removed, in her words, "anything that my mom didn't need" which included: ovaries, F tubes, uterus, cervix, appendix, omentum, and any cancer that had "planted" itself on her lining, diaphram, and colon intestines. (Just in case there is anyone out there who is clueless like I was: She did this with a suction devise that she said literally sucks the cancer right off. She also explained that just because the cancer is on the surface of an area or organ does not mean that it has metastasized to that organ/area. That was much welcomed news to me!)

My surgery date was on October 6, 2010. The surgeon did a lobectomy on my right lung, where the two spots were located. My side effects were that I had extreme pain in my side, difficulty breathing, and even pain in my right arm. The pain from the surgery went away after about two weeks, but I still have shortness of breath because I am missing part of my lung- go figure.
Craniotomy, 8/8/1986
lobectomy 9/24/09,massive infection removal & lobectomy 11/3/09
The surgeon, an excellent surgeon, recommended a lobectomy on the right lung. Surgery was performed on July 13, 2009. The surgeon found the nodule was cancerous and had grown in an area of the lung damaged by a fungal infection, cryptocaucus. My recuperation period in the hospital was twelve days, the release prolonged due to a pneumothorax (collapsed lung). The treatment for this was the most painful thing I have EVER encountered. It's called Pleurodesis and consists of putting one of any number of chemicals (sclerosing agents or sclerosants) into the pleural space by way of the existing chest tube. The sclerosant irritates the pleurae which results in inflammation (pleuritis) and causes the pleurae to stick together. I don't recommend this to cure boredom but it did work!!

Hysterectomy - very slow recovery because of infection. Brain surgery because of ruptured tumor. Honestly the worse thing yet. I as well had both parathyroids and Thyroid glands removed with five accompanied tumors that were attached to them. Sheesh...when u write it all out like that, it makes me wonder why in the heck I am still here? I am still suffering side effects. We cannot get the meds. leveled out. I have been known to get up, sit down for a bite of breakfast and wake up three hours later with toast still in my mouth and hand. Very sleepy! But alive!!!

Had a thyroidectomy March 2003 with an RAE131 ablation 8 weeks later, had residual thyroid cells on the thyroid bed ablated 18 months later. everything was GREAT until Oct. 2009 when I felt a bump on the side of my neck and my then endro. assured me that everyone had them, but then my Primary provider decided to send me to a thyroid specialist who first ordered a CT scan and then a Lymphectomy which proved to be cancerous with Papillary Cancer. Because of the Holidays and other scheduling conflicts on the doctor's part the surgery was put off until Feb 24 2010. I had a right neck dissection in which 28 Lymph Nodes were removed along with the outer jugular vein were removed. 8 of the 28 lymph nodes were canerous. Had 217 mCi of RAI June 16, 2010 had to wait until Nov. 30 to a PET scan which showed that the RAI had not killed the cancers and also that the cancers that were on the 4 lobes of the lungs had grown.
