Lumpectomy Surgeries

What Lumpectomy Surgery Cancer Survivors said about their Cancer Surgeries.

May, 1998 hysterctomy; July, 1999 corrective surgery; abdominoplasty to help with healing. 2005 double mastectomy; floating met.
Lumpectomy on Jan 15th,201
Lumpectomy 2010, ovaries and Fallopian tubes removed June 2011, double mastectomy with reconstruction November 2011, lumpectomy with brachytherapy October 2012
Dec 10, 2010: Lumpectomy, breast reduction Side effects: Pain, can't pick up anything over ten lbs, I don't have to cook or clean house and walk dogs.
Had a terible surgeon for my biopsy. Felt my whole biopsy, October 2009, and was in pain for days afterwards. For my lumpectomy, November 2009, changed to Dr. Fine, and my lumpectomy and sentinol node surgery was wonderful. I do have grade 1 lymphodema as a result of my surgery (had nine lymph nodes taken out). January 26 will have ovaries out as I am unable to take tamoxifen.
Lumpectomy, with sentinal node biopsey followed by re-excession to obtain clear margins.
I opted for a lumpectomy, mainly because I didn't want to lose my hair! Since the cancer was agressive and had traveled to my lymph nodes (7 out of 12), I went through chemo and lost my hair anyway. The surgery was October 2002. I had an emergency surgery to install a medi-port after the second chemo treatment because my veins went on strike. Next up: oophrectomy. They removed my ovaries. Oh to be in menopause at age 40. Is it hot in here to you?
Jan 6, 2010 -lumpectomy, and 9 axillary lymph nodes removed. Jan 13 revision of tissue margins. Jan 29 insert Portacath
Breast cancer No. 1. Surgery left me with some lymph oedema in the left arm, but the exercises helped and this is now barely noticeable. Leiomyosarcoma 2009: Can still sometimes feel the 'join' where my guts were resectioned and this can be a little uncomfortable. Breast cancer No. 2 2011: The nature of the reconstruction made it really hard to stand straight for about 3 months after the op. Also a tiny part of the new boob 'died' as it lost its blood supply temporarily - its taken 6 months to heal fully but is ok now.
Lumpectomy in fall of 2009; no major side effects
Bone Marrow Biopsies depending upon what my blood work reflects on how often I now get BMB.2005 Vertioblasty performed when I received a double compression fx. of T-7 & T-8 from biopsy. Nose reconstructive & internal reduction 3/2010 after a fall where I fx. my nose
I was lucky that I only had to wait about one week to have surgery. It was so disappointing to know that I would have to have chemo. I woke up with the tube under my arm and knew that meant lymph nodes and chemo. Can't I do anything easy?
two sergical biopsys, breast lumpectomy
I have had two surgeries-lumpectomy and reincision to get the rest of lump and port installment.
Lumpectomy on "Lefty" and endometrial ablation on July 22, 2011 Portacath insertion scheduled for August 30th

I had a lumpectomy in May and Then had to have a re-excision in June to get clean margins. I was just a little sore from each surgery.
Lumpectomy, Sentinal Node Biopsy. October 2009 Excessive time to wake up - 6.5 hours. Severe rash from Benzoin and Steri-strips

Just had second surgery recently and a portacat put in. Chemo soon.

All went well.

Port-a-cath insertion: 4/06, Periodic pain although it is more annoying than painful most of the time. Oopherectomy: 5/06, The burning was the most painful part of this surgery. It went away fairly quickly though. Second surgery August 15th tumor was the size of a golf ball. Surgeon had pathology results of cancer on August 25th 2011 but it was not told to him until his family dr finally got the pathology and called him in on October 6th 2011. Partial Gastrectomy, Vagotomy, Pyloroplasty in October 2008 to remove tumor and adjacent lymph nodes.
My Surgery was April 1 and April 3rd. Pretty easy. I was happy to see my breast had not changed because of surgery.
3 biopsies, double mastectomey, node disecction
Whipple procedure on May 17, 2012. I can eat anything that I want but have the side effect of having to have a bowel movement after every meal.......sometimes diarrhea but always unformed. This has caused me to lose a total of 45 pounds since surgery. I have been able to maintain my weight at 145 now because I eat at least every 2 hours if not more often.
Hair loss, weakness, weight loss, nausea, neuropathy
I also had a heart transplant almost 14 years ago. So I already have a compromised immune system already.... I have HPV and had cervical displasia 10 years ago. So I feel somewhat pre disposed to getting this type of cancer....

Mastectomy Surgeries

What Mastectomy Surgery Cancer Survivors said about their Cancer Surgeries.

bilateral mastectomy, SNB, expander reconstruction.
Surgery was fast and was out the next morning.
Surgeon recommended lumpectomy. I sought a few plastic surgery opinions and decided on a double mastectomy due to type of cancer and my age (40). I wanted to be more aggressive with the plan. I did not want to take any chances of spreading...No recon yet. I will need expanders as I was under weight and have very lil tissue left on my chest wall. I am preparing for surgery a year or so from last treatment.
Right side mastectomy w/ lymph node removal was June 18th, 2012. I went home from hospital the day after surgery. Drains were removed 2 weeks later without complications. I will have the left side mastectomy with total reconstruction after I complete radiation.
they put the blue dye in my live diseased breast on 04-26-04, then as they put me to sleep they acccidently gave me a shot of adrenalyn (sp) so I had to redo the blue dye on 04-28-04 on my 18th anniversary after they had checked to make sure there was no cardiac danger.

Bilateral Mastectomy and Recon not determined
1989 had a masectomy. It was in all my ducts of my breast. But I caught in early enough that it did not affect my lymph nodes so I did not need any radiation or chemotherapy. In 2000 I had a bilateral Tram flap reconstructive procedure

Biopsy done August 28th/09 Quadroscopy and biopsies November 27 Feb. 18, 2010 Major 20 hr combination surgeries with complications
lymph node removal from iliac area November 2, 2011
Has any one heard of the port being placed on the arm?? Skin/nipple spearing, bilateral Mastectomy with immediate reconstruction; the right Brest where the lump was found healed perfectly. The left side which was cancer free did not heal. The permanent implant was replaced with an expander implant and it did not heal either. The repeated reversal of the reconstruction was taking a toll on my moral and was also delaying the treatment. We decided to leave the left breast area to heal so quimo can begin. Once completed, the reconstruction will be attempted once again. Originally, it was thought that I did not need a port because the lymph nodes were clean. However, I do have to have one implanted and will done on Wed.

They just happen more often.

January 2009: Hysterectomy and removal of ovarian masses turned into emergency surgery due to a bowel obstruction. The tumors were too large/difficult to remove at that time. The doctors decided to blast her with chemo, shrink the tumors and operate again in a few months. May 2009: Complete hysterectomy. Omentectomy. Tumor debulking. An ostomy was created. Septemper 2009: More tumor debuking/removal. The ostomy was reversed (yay!) September 2010: Admitted to hospital for bowel obstruction. Had gastrostomy surgery. PEG tube(Percutaneous Endoscopic Gastrostomy) inserted to help decompress stomach contents and to prevent and manage nausea/vomiting.
December 2010: After an unsuccessful abdominal surgery, she was discharged and began Home Hospice Care. So far, her symptoms and pain are being managed. We are positive, upbeat and cherishing the moments we have together.

January 7th, 2011: My mom passed away at home. Lobectomy Surgeries

What Lobectomy Surgery Cancer Survivors said about their Cancer Surgeries.

Colon resection, lobectomy 2002. Lung wedge removal, pericardial window 2005.
March 2, 2009 Lobectomy (upper right lung) August 20, 2009 succcessful open brain surgical removal of 3cm tumor

My surgery date was on October 6, 2010. The surgeon did a lobectomy on my right lung, where the two spots were located. My side effects were that I had extreme pain in my side, difficulty breathing, and even pain in my right arm. The pain from the surgery went away after about two weeks, but I still have shortness of breath because I am missing part of my lung- go figure.
Craniotomy, 8/8/1986
lobectomy 9/24/09,massive infection removal & lobectomy 11/3/09
The surgeon, an excellent surgeon, recommended a lobectomy on the right lung. Surgery was performed on July 13, 2009. The surgeon found the nodule was cancerous and had grown in an area of the lung damaged by a fungal infection, cryptocaucus. My recuperation period in the hospital was twelve days, the release prolonged due to a pneumothorax (collapsed lung). The treatment for this was the most painful thing I have EVER encountered. It's called Pleurodesis and consists of putting one of any number of chemicals (sclerosing agents or sclerosants) into the pleural space by way of the existing chest tube. The sclerosant irritates the pleurae which results in inflammation (pleuritis) and causes the pleurae to stick together. I don't recommend this to cure boredom but it did work!!

I have had five different surgery's, for four different cancer issues. Complete exploratory, splenectomy,(little side effects). Five inches of rib was taken right above left breast. Hysterectomy - very slow recovery because of infection. Brain surgery because of ruptured tumor. Honestly the worse thing yet. I as well had both parathyroids and Thyroid glands removed with five accompanied tumors that were attached to them. Sheesh...when u write it all out like that, it makes me wonder why in the heck I am still here? I am still suffering side effects. We cannot get the meds. leveled out. I have been known to get up, sit down for a bite of breakfast and wake up three hours later with toast still in my mouth and hand. Very sleepy! But alive!!!

Oct. 17 colonoscpy/ Oct 19 removed 18 inches of colon, 15 lymph nodes and appendix. Six days in hospital. Lymph nodes clear cancer had spread outside the wall of colon and almost completely closed off bowels.
my 1st surgery was on the 4/22/08 of the colon. 12/15/08 was on lift lung, 3/2/09 was on my right lung.
First surgery was 1/6/14 to remove large mass and create an ileostomy. Surgery went great(Robotic--6 hours) but my body didn't want to be as positive about everything. Lost all appetite for several days and then began vomiting if I drank any fluids. After doing a Small Bowel xray, found a small narrowing near the site of the ileostomy but was believed to be swelling. I would actually have a few good days here and there which made me feel like I was improving and just had to wait for my body to respond to this new life. Remained in the hospital for 9 days but was hoping to leave after 4 or 5. After I got home, the ileostomy bag---which is no fun, but only temporary, would do it's thing for the most part but there were days where I would get little to nothing in the bag for a whole day. That's when I knew something wasn't right. Eventually it would start working so the surgeon kept a very close eye on progress. Suddenly, on the 3rd week post op, I started cramping which increased over a 3 day period to the point it felt I was having labor pains every 4 to 6 minutes. I couldn't sleep, eat or rest at any point but I was determined to handle this on my own and get thru it. Not a smart move. Finally made an appointment with my surgeon( who I love) on the 3rd day from Hell, he took one look at me and said we need to do emergency surgery and reverse the ileostomy. I had a small bowel obstruction after all. My tumor was so close to the sphincter muscle that he was afraid I hadn't given the surgical area enough time to heal but the reversal actually went well. Obviously if the sphincter muscle isn't strong, it can result in fecal incontinance. That second surgery was 1/31/14. Had a third surgery on 2/21/14 to place a Purple power port and do an anal dilatation because I was getting very uncomfortable in the anal region. Sadly, another complication I am dealing with is a neurogenic bladder, meaning I haven't been able to empty my bladder normally since the first surgery. My urologist believes this will return to normal but can't give me any time frame to expect. Having to self cath myself at this time, which isn't horrible but not very practical or convenient when working full time and being very active.

Tonsillectomy Surgeries

What Tonsillectomy Surgery Cancer Survivors said about their Cancer Surgeries.

Tonsillectomy and biopsies 5/10/12
Surgery was conducted on Nov 8th 2010 and lasted 8 1/2 hours. Surgery consisted of partial tonsilectomy (left tonsil) and removal of 40 lymph nodes. Remained in ICU 12 days; 10 days heavily sedated due to "being a bad patient" (combative). Could not drink liquids without them shooting through my nostrils for 2 weeks. I could manage one small ice chip but not two. A PET scan revealed one lymph node that probably was malignant. This necessitated radiation treatment.

Removed left tonsil and hen egg size tumor from behind and above tonsil on March 8,2011. I was sent home on the next day, with medications for infection and pain. the area around surgery was painful, but meds helped. after 8 days I stopped using pain meds. I notice more than the normal amount of mucus in my mouth. When I looked in the mirror, I was surprised to see the big hole in the left side of the roof of my mouth. It is now March22 and depression has hit, I know that I have been told that its curable and treatable, I am wondering what all of these life changing experiences are that I keep hearing my Dr speak about. Going tomorrow to a consult with medical people about chemo and radiation. I have an upcoming PET scan.

What Thyroidectomy Surgery Cancer Survivors said about their Cancer Surgeries.

Completed thyroidectomy on 2/24/10 was a breeze. Vocal chord damage.
Biopsy- Dec 2010 Thyroid Removal and possible lymph nodes- May-4-2011
Had a thyroidectomy March 2003 with an RAE131 ablation 8 weeks later, had residual thyroid cells on the thyroid bed ablated 18 months later. everything was GREAT until Oct. 2009 when I felt a bump on the side of my neck and my then endro. assured me that everyone had them, but then my Primary provider decided to send me to a thyroid specialist who first ordered a CT scan and then a Lymphectomy which proved to be cancerous with Papillary Cancer. Because of the Holidays and other scheduling conflicts on the doctor's part the surgery was put off until Feb 24 2010. I had a right neck dissection in which 28 Lymph Nodes were removed along with the outer jugular vein were removed. 8 of the 28 lymph nodes were canerous. Had 217 mCi of RAI June 16, 2010 had to wait until Nov. 30 to a PET scan which showed that the RAI had not killed the cancers and also that the cancers that were on the 4 lobes of the lungs had grown. I have now been diagnosed as a Pulmonary Mestastic Diesease patient.

Surgery on Nov. 23, 2013. Radical neck dissection and thyroidectomy. 64 lymph nodes removed.
Total thyroidectomy on May 8, 2008. Found cancer on both sides of my thyroid and into my lymph nodes. Incision area is sore and itchy. Met with the surgeon on May 16 and he removed the bandages. Advises me to use sunscreen daily and my scar shouldn't be as noticeable. Also had a hard time swallowing for a few days after surgery. Most likely caused by the breathing tube inserted during surgery. A week later and I can swallow without pain. The week after surgery I would feel great for awhile and then become really tired.
